Eli Krantzberg: I FINALLY understand chunks....!
THANK YOU.
Call me dense, but chunks have ALWAYS been something I just "didn't get". The confusing terminology (chunks can be sequences, several chunks can make up a song, a song can be a chunk, etc.), the way to use and set up VR racks with sequences and chunks, the timeline...all of these things confused the hell out of me. No longer. And watching your workflow of breaking an arrangement into separate sequences to use as chunks was a friggin' revelation.
Huge for me dude, cause it opened up a whole new set of functionality of DP for me...and also helped me understand that a prior criticism of mine of DP ("hopelessly mired in an old paradigm") is off the mark. Chunks is a lot like Reason's 'Blocks' for instance and predates it significantly.
Anyway, the new video tutorials were really helpful. Thanks a million. On to your Mach5 videos to see what I missed there....!

Wow, I don't know what to say!
I'm so glad they were useful to you.
You know, after all these years doing videos, it's still one on one responses like yours that make this so gratifying. Thank you - you made my day!

I totally second that. I never really understood the use for the Chunks/Song thingy either..
Those "V-Racks" were just some space shuttles that I didn´t need as I was not planning to travel to the moon...
Hey, but now I can!!!

I´ve been using CHUNKS since Eli explained them in the DP8 Explained video. Now I´m using them constantly.
In my everyday work I find chunks great to use when editing and comping different parts of large recorded audio projects. Like a chunk for editing BGV.. or guitars, or lead vox.. or..or

Eli tought me a lot with his DP8 vidz.
It makes the way I work in DP much more efficient and quick.
I´m very greatful for that.

I'm going to have to watch the video so that I know what Eli said that worked for everyone. I've been trumpeting the powers of Chunks and many other features of DP for years, and I don't get through to everyone. Maybe I can learn how to teach this by watching someone with a gift for explaining things.

PS: is there a link? I went to Eli's site, but it only listed Logic, PT, and some other DAWs. No DP up there yet.

Well, I guess I'd have to buy it. Not that it's not worth it, but I just don't need them at the moment. Nevertheless, I'm very happy they exist. Once in a while I make a video, but I haven't sat down and systematically done a whole tutorial for DP, though I did plan one a year or two ago. We do need more of that out there, and it's apparent that they are very effective. Good work!

Unfortunately personal web site is hopelessly out of date. Thanks for the kick in the ass to get it current
But yeah, the videos are available through groove3. Here are the direct links:

Forgot to mention also: the "Working with Movies" videos were also very illuminating. Using chunks and sequences with cues (and the "unconventional approach" illustrated) was really helpful.
As I watched, what occurred to me is that this is the kind of stuff folks learned in apprenticeship as a studio newbie or composer's assistant...watching someone do it (as opposed to reading about how to do it). For folks such as myself (a "recording studio" class or two years ago at night school from a university, a demanding day job to feed the family and my plugin habit, no collaborators nearby), the opportunity to learn "at the feet of experts" is limited to non-existent. So I struggle through trying to figure it out on my own through books, forums such as this, tutorials, research, what have you. Frankly, I've been trying to figure out an effective scoring workflow for years; 45 minutes or so with your videos answered many, many questions.
I don't mean to sound like a fanboy, but I gotta tell you: the advanced series is really great. Thanks.
