Hello,
I've done my due diligence in the archives but I'm thinking my
search queries are using different descriptions than others.
My 828MKII is powering off on it's own. I thought the issue was
from overheating, but I've got serious AC and ventilation occurring.
I've also had a tech recently go over the soldering to see if there
are any cold solder joints.
Their hypothesis is the internal power supply is going bad due to
typical aging.
OK, so now the answer is send it to MOTU with $100 bench fee,
right? But there's a kicker... it's modded by BLA. Will MOTU service
a modded device?
Any other techs qualified to service 828MKII, install power supplies,
etc?
Thanks for your help. I love this interface, got some moderate coin
into it, and don't want to contribute to planned obsolescence and
landfill expansion.

I think MOTU simply trades out units returned for repair, so that approach may not be an option for you. I'd give 'em a call and see what they say.
The mkII is a very good unit with conversion quality that it truly top-drawer, at least as measured by Audio Diffmaker (documented over at Gearslutz.)
