"Apply Plug-In" Shortcut Missing in DP8?
Beginning my new odyssey with DP8...
I know that if you want to insert a plug-in the "old" way that you can right click on one of the insert tabs in the mixer window and they are displayed by manufacturer as opposed to the long (and slightly confusing) default plug-in list.
However, in DP 7, if you wanted to apply an effect (like Trim) directly to a soundbite you could select and then right-click and easily select the one that you wanted. Now a right click reveals the "Apply Plug-In..." and takes you to the long list.
I've tried every key command combination that I can think of and scanned the entire manual and can't find a way to re-establish this simpler modus operandi.
Anyone?
Thanks!
Buzzy

I don't know what's different (8.01 versus 8.00?), but when I right click a soundbite, I get nothing at all -- no contextual menu.
But if you assign "Apply Plugin" to a key command, select a soundbite, and press your assigned key command, you will get the new plugin menu rather than the single long list (at least in 8.01).

I'm referring to 8.01.
You are right...if I right click a soundbite I get...
In my case about 100+ choices.
I prefer the older way where a subset menu appeared grouped by manufacturer.
Thanks, though...

Re: "Apply Plug-In" Shortcut Missing in DP8?
There is a manufacturer list embedded in the new plugin chooser. It's near the upper right corner. If I open up that menu using the triangle, and close the others, it's not that far from the old display format -- a list of manufacturers on the left and a list of the selected manufacturer's plugins on the right. And it looks like it stays that way each time it is opened.
(I'm puzzled though, why we're getting different behaviour with right clicks)

The plugin manager at 1st is a bit daunting but it's set up this way to address the different plugin platforms & is actually categorized well IMO.
I use a magic track pad (which unlike some here I don't always like) & I sometimes find trying to right click takes a few attempts to pull down the contextual menus by brand of plugins I'm used to,I've thought it was my heavy handed brutish touch but now I wonder if there's something else at play.
A bit OT : the other weird behavior I see with the magic trackpad now that I'm back using 2 monitors,if I'm on a web page or in DP in the Mixer and I'm trying to slide the page down I often see a ghost of my curser appear on my 2nd monitor before it should and have to go back and forth a bit to find the cursor where I want it.
I wonder if it's a trackpad issue,a video card issue or an OS issue,I don't think it's a DP issue because it happens in other apps as well adding to the confusion.
But I wonder if some of the inconsistent behavior with right click plugin behavior is some kind of system preference on the OS level or something else besides DP.

Yes, the trackpad takes some practise and learning. If I double tap, I'm getting the menu Buzzy mentioned, but control tap doesn't do anything. And the double tap itself seems a bit erratic at first.

Thanks! I'll check that out.bayswater wrote:There is a manufacturer list embedded in the new plugin chooser. It's near the upper right corner. I don't know about the right clicks, either. I am still on OS X 10.6.8, if that matters.

Re: "Apply Plug-In" Shortcut Missing in DP8?
On a track pad, technically it's a secondary click, and for some reason, on the MBP, right click, control click, and secondary click do not give identical results. But I can do it with a double tap / secondary click.
