Motu 2408 and 896MKIII

Hi, I am now considering to downgrade my audio interface from Motu2408MKII(PCI) to 896MKIII(Firewire), I am afraid that firewire connection not that stable for recording and the latency problem for virtual instruments in sequencing. Does anyone have an experience on the transition of PCI audio interface to firewire? Thanks.
