Lions and Tigers and Snow Leopards...Oh why...

Post by Rhetro »

can't this be easy....?

I have a 2 gHz Intel core 2 duo, 3Gb 667 Macbook that's about 5 years old now.
Well, I was getting a lot of fan noise as of late, and I figured the computer was mucked up on the inside. I opened it up, and it was actually quite clean (I baby these things).
Well, I stack a lot of presets and occasionally get the Audio Performance Progress bar up about half way with the fan going full tilt (this is with Lion). I figured that perhaps I was asking too much and/or my computer was getting old and starting to tire....

I've been having problem with getting plugin presets to save to my own customized settings. When I click on save settings after tweaking the preset, I'll either get an error chime or an error (-43?) message saying the settings could not be saved.
I've sat on the phone with MOTU at length about it. They've suggested everything from repairing permissions, re-installing DP7, to wiping the drive and starting over with a fresh install of Lion. The latter suggestion being due to a glitch that will not allow Lion to work with DP 7 successfully with a system that had a prior Tiger installation on it (essentially my situation). This is according to MOTU.
So, I wiped the drive and reinstalled Lion and then DP7;
To no avail; I can't even complete the DP7 installation. It's a purchased and registered copy, and when it asks for the name and serial #, it doesn't believe me! Ok, I tried to install it in Applications and NOT Macbook -does this matter?

So, it's a machine that originally had Tiger, then Snow Leopard, the Lion....
I've been reading about a fair amount of discontent with Lion -so I may have purchased it prematurely...

Ok. Here's the deal. I can get a last years model Macbook (the last edition white 64 bit MacBooks for a steal, loaded with 8gb of ram) with my choice of either Snow Leopard or Lion.

Or try and fix what I have...

Any thoughts???

Thanks!!

DP needs the install disc in to reauthorize. Or, you may have to do something tricky to get it to work, like delete the old auth file first. I think I had this issue a few years ago. Maybe someone else will chime in.

I'm very happy in Lion and am glad I'm up to date. I still have my SL partition though as a safety but I'm running full time in Lion.

You're going to want to max out your ram on whatever system you're using 3gbs is nothing, especially when DP comes out and will handle all available ram. Plus, I'm not sure if DP8 will run in anything other than Lion. Good luck.

Hey Dave.

I appreciate the input.

I did use the original DP7 disks after wiping the hard drive, and re-installing Lion. So I figure you're right. There's something that needs to be tweaked. I don't think it has anything with DP7 being installed on multiple machines (it hasn't been a problem before).

But I agree on the move to something a little more recent; it couldn't hurt. I'm just glad that there some people out there that have been getting Lion to work with DP7.

Thanks again
