Motu Ultralite Mk3 - no sound!

Post by Kundalini »

Hi
I'm a newbie & need some help setting up my Motu Ultralite Mk3 (alas not the new Hybrid model)
I'm running 32bit Vista SP3 on my PC which has a mini firewire port, so I run the Mk3 with it's AC power pack.
I'm trying to play a digital audio stream (which I know works as it plays on other devices) input to the S/PIDIF IN & am wanting to send a balanced analog output from the L&R Main Outs (I have some good quality TRS jacks).
PROBLEM - I can't seem to find how to to find the input signal or make it play out of the Main Outs - either using the Motu Audio Console software via my PC or by going through all the menus on the hardware's front panel operation. When trying to play an analog input sent to inputs 3 & 4 it still won't play.
It's driving me nuts so I'd greatly appreciate it if somebody adept with configuring/routing can give me some idiot-proof step-by-step instructions for finding the input signal & getting it to play out the output of my choice (in this case L&R Main Outs).
THANKS IN ADVANCE!
:)

Hi,

Right click the speaker icon in the system tray near the clock. Choose playback devices. Set your appropriate output there as the default. (As per your request - set it to Main 1+2 or Analog 1+2, depending on how your choice is for your specific MOTU.)

You can also choose which output to use in most playback applications, which can be the same as or different than how you already set Windows as per above.

i.e. Winamp, DAWs

If you haven't yet, open CueMix FX and set appropriate levels for the S/PDIF in, in mix bus 1. Also take the mute button(s) off if they are on. Then set the output to Analog 1+2 (or Main 1+2) for that mix 1 bus.

PS - when I try operate the physical front panel of the Mk3 hardware & press the VOL/PHONES button, the phones say -13dB & the master is 0dB - but when I rotate this button it won't let me adjust the volume on the phones/master (not that there's anything playing out of either!) - it just returns to whatever CHAN/PARAM/PAGE/VALUE had been showing previously.
Just in case this helps with diagnosis & solution!
Thanks :)

Thanks for your reply torrentG

Got it sorted - was a combination of:
* the sample-rate (coax/spidif only worked with 41-48k & I had it set to 96k)
* assigning the 'Phones' in the Audio Console to "Main Out 1-2")
* on Cuemix "Mixes" tab setting Bus 1 to "Main 1-2"
* on Cuemix "Outputs" tab monitoring 'Main 1-2"
* on Cuemix Monitor Level/Outputs section (far right of panel) selecting "Main Outs"

Hope this helps anybody else out there in a similar situation :woohoo: - there are so many options & if any one of these is not on the right setting you get no sound!

PS - DOES ANYBODY KNOW IF Ultralite Mk3 has any upgrades beyond Firmware 1.0 & Hardware 1.0 ?

Cheers
:)

Hardware 1.0 means the actual physical unit itself. If you find a way to update that, you might get rich from it. heh heh :)

As for the firmware, it does not appear that there is an update yet:

You're welcome.
