Machfive 3 bonuses.

Post by ponknasty »

I like that you can drag drop .mov files directly to mapping and it automatically extracts the audio.

I also like that you can double click a file in the browser and it automatically replaces the selected keygroup and keeps the current settings of the previous one. Most samplers you have to rightclick and choose replace and then you have to browse in a separate process.

I also like the Ircam Granular. It has great variety of diverse settings that are ideal for alot of different tasks and is surprisingly efficient.

One thing that I think Machfive 3 needs is the rate control in the arpeggiator to be manipulatable from internal modulators and also I like to use lfo's etc to modulate the Arp on/off but the light doesn't reflect the action(on/off still works but an indicator may be nice).

I'm currently installing K-7 but without memory server for Maschine and possibly one or two maschine packs. I have eSATA so I can go with a Raptor to stream directly off disc in V vs 3.

Question,

How large a sample can one load into Mach V vs 3 to use the Ircam time-stretching (or vice versa) algorithm? Is there a limit to the size of the broadcast wave file one can load? What percentage increase or decrease in tempo do they recommend for Gold Master quality?

Question, does the file format need to be converted first? Actually these are off 1/2 track Studer to TDM on a Mac and are SD-2 files 24/48k.

Question,

How would anyone who has used both Serato P & T compare the two? I 86'd Serato after a 2 BPM time stretch with vocals as it lost its groove (and it wasn't tempo related). Not for $1,800 USD.

Thanks in advance,

Oh, can they be interleaved AIFF or dual mono only? What about phase coherency if dual mono (stereo submix) on all the Ircam algorithms?

You can load a whole song in IRCAM stretch. Don't know if there is a limit in size. Obviously your RAM at least as IRCAM stretch do not stream from HD.
Broadcast wave and SD2 format is supported.

You can load dual mono(.L .R) or interleaved file format.

Don't have Serato so I can't compare directly but check the samples on MOTU website. The quality is top notch imho.

Didn't know any of that.
Thanks for the info.
I find myself enjoying the ease of editing in Mach5v3 more than Kontakt.
