Cloning my sound library drive...

Post by Nibiru »

Hello all!

I think this topic has been discussed here, but I had a hard time finding an answer doing a search. Please forgive me.

So here's my situation. I'm duplicating my studio and need to clone my sound library drive. My questions are:

1. Are there any authorizations stored on the sound library drive that I need to worry about?

2. Does the clone drive need to be the same make/model/size as the source drive?

I remember seeing a thread about that here but couldn't find it.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I've cloned my sound library for V.I.s a couple times.
The make of the hard drive that you're cloning to, shouldn't matter.
All you have to do is copy it over to the new drive and direct all your V.I.s to that new hard drive. That should do it.

Scooter,

Thank you for the reply! And very sorry about my tardiness in responding. I don't want you to think I'm not grateful. Time has been harder and harder to come by these days, and am only now getting the opportunity to respond. Anyhoo, thanks again!

So, here's what I want to do, and I realize I should have stated this in my first post, but it didn't occur to me at the time. Sorry.

I want to be able to have duplicate drives in two locations, where all I have to do is bring my laptop and plug in. If I clone my 'Sounds' drive, will I still have to redirect all my VI's to the cloned drive? I was hoping to avoid this.

If authorized by serial number or iLok, should be no problem. If using a disk or internet authorization, then, yes, they will have to be re-authorized.

If your internet authorization only allows for two locations (such as NI libraries supplied with Finale) and you want to have it in three locations, you will have to place a phone call to Customer Service and ask (Finale, BTW, always did this for me so I could run it on my home, laptop and church computers).

Use Superduper for cloning, it will copy hidden files as well. Many if not most disk-based authorizations survive this.

I was not clear then. By "disk based" I meant where you have to use your original CD to authorize such as DP. This does not "survive" if using Superduper. You must reauthorize.
