When will there be a DP 8 or DP 9?

Post by djevon »

It's been a while since the last DP version upgrade to 7.2. When is Motu releasing a new version of DP?

Nobody knows except MOTU. I may start simply deleting these posts as they really DO seem to be pointless.

DP 8 will be released June 23, 2011 and DP 9 will be released June 27, 2011 - according to the Mayan Calendar.

Since Pro Tools and Logic are both on version 9, DP is going to skip 8 and 9 and go straight to 10, so it'll always be "one more" than the competition. After 10, they'll just call it "infinity plus one."

Reminds me why the computer in 2001: A Space Odyssey was called "HAL." Each letter was one one earlier than IBM.

I never knew that. Duh! But extrapolating, it seems the only other choices were PIT or VOX. Clearly, HAL was the best choice.

Thanks for the tidbit of cinema history! Now did you know this guy's descendants started Burger King?

So the next version of DP could be EQ, but that name is already taken. Do people really sign up just to ask this question? I guess they are hoping to talk to one of the drunken off-time MOTU execs who frequent this forum and spill the corporate beans to noobs, who can then scoop the story on other forums. Nice try. :P

I have it on very good authority that they will be releasing DP9 several months before DP8.

This is so if there are problems with 9, they can fix them in 8.xx and then people who are still working with DP9 will automatically have a solid release, eventually.

I heard the next release of DP is so good that someone gave it a 10 out of 10, so there going to call it DP10.......

hahaha, DP's next version update is when all others release version "XX". Guess Motu is short staffed.

Maybe, maybe not. I know that version 7 has had a lot of incremental updates, and that there have been tons of improvements made since DP 7 rolled out. So they're obviously not so short staffed as to ignore it. Did you notice that an update came out a couple of weeks ago?

No matter when the new version comes, I'll be rolling along on a feature-rich and stable DP 7 for a while.
