USB 1.1 compatibility with USB 2?

Post by Gate 13 »

Hi .
I am very close to buy an MBOX3 mini from digidesign and in the requirements sction it says that the connection is USB 1.1....I am a little confused? How come a new interface like Mbox 3 would have USB 1.1....
And also, is it going to work in my mac pro quad core? I thought everyne is in usb2 and the 3 is coming...
Please help!

You might get an answer here, but we're really MOTU and DP geeks. It is strange that DigiD folks released a 1.1 USB device now. Maybe the "mini" status has something to do with it? Perhaps they want to keep compatibility with older and more portable devices that still have 1.1?

It should work in a USB2 buss but it'll be slow as 1.

Just to mention an experience: A few years ago, I've mixed a 10 audio tracks DP project, where all datas and DP project files were located in an external 5400 rpm hard drive hooked to the mac thru... usb1! Not a glitch during the whole process.

I did some work in a person's home studio last summer that had an M-Box mini (I don't know if it was M-Box 3 or not). It was horrible. Absolutely the worst sounding interface I've ever heard. I'd do a little more shopping around before getting that unit if I were you. Just sayin'.
