828/2 sounding like a distortion pedal!

Hi Guys

Problem gone away now, but a minute ago my MOTU 828mkII was applying a HPF from about 500Hz and a Boss DS-1 style distortion to everything coming out of it.

Didn't happen from startup, it just started happening when it wasn't in use, then when I started playing stuff back through it, it started.

Happened on both DAW stuff (Logic 9) and on iTunes stuff. Also, was definitely the MOTU not the amp since it was in both the speakers (from Main Out L/R) and the headphones (from front panel phones socket). Switched it off and back on again, no more distortion.

This unit must now be 7-8 years old and has never had a major issue. I'd like to keep it because I think it's a great piece of kit, but being in the UK (where customer service is notoriously non-existent) I am tempted by the prospect of getting £150-200 online for it (before it dies!) and buying a TC Impact interface. Is this a sign of the interface going defunct - and time to sell up; or should I just ignore it as 'one of those things'?

System Spec:

Macbook Pro i5 15" 2.4GHz 4GB RAM 2010 model
MOTU 828mkII from around 03-04. My NON BLA model.
Mac OS X 10.6.(latest)
Logic 9.(latest)
iTunes (latest)

Also, if it means anything, there is a FW800 drive in daisy chain in between the mac and the motu.

That's about all the useful stuff I can say, anyone got any ideas or similar problems?
