Motu 828 Firewire ORIGINAL - Windows 7 Problems

Hi, I just bought an original Motu 828 firewire and I've got it hooked up to a Toshiba Qosimo laptop through the"iLink" firewire port running Windows 7 64 bit. I downloaded the latest drivers from Motu's site. I'm having all the issues others have been having: Clicks, pops and extended dropouts/loss of communication. I've been reading older posts but haven't seen any posts with my particular configuration.
I've learned that Motu's drivers for windows are suspect as well as my firewire port drivers. I've tried using Cubase, Adobe Audition and Sonar and with every program I have the same problem. I've tried rolling my firewire driver back to "Legacy". That helped with the dropouts/loss of communication but it made the clicks and pops MUCH worse.
Does ANYBODY have any insight as to what I should try next???? Thank you in advance for your help!

i have the same problem with my Ultralite MK3 hybrid!
clicks, pops all the time!
i am using win7 64bit with cubase5.
i tried updateing my motu driver but nothing helps.
anyone has a solution for this?

another thing i noticed, i dont know if that is relevant, is that in Cubase5 my VST meter will always be peaking when i open a project until i start the Cuemix program and then everything would settle again.
strange.doesnt stop the clicks and pops though.

even if you dont have a focusrite device (i dont) it works! or atleast seems to be working so far. clicks and pops are gone.
