Linking MTAVP units.

Post by Prado Escondido »

You can't be too rich or too thin ... well maybe too anorexic ... but you definitely can't have too many MIDI ports.

I love my MT Parallel I just bought another for backup.

But wait!

Haven't I read somewhere that you can daisy chain them?

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

You can link two MIDI Time Piece MTP-AV-SB/ser with an old serial (printer) cable. It's all in the manual, near the front iirc. One is set as ports 1-8, the other as 9-16. I'm not near my rig or manual at the moment, so you will need to read the instructions from your manual.

I used to live in Escondido.
Mac Pro 1.1, SL 10.6.8, 13 gigs ram, DP7, 2 MTP-AV-USB, MTP-AV serial, Microlite, 828mk2, 828mk3, HDX-SDI, 7 other Macs

Thanks Smiles ...

But I guess I didn't ask the whole question: can you link 2 and still link to the computer?

Since I'm using the parallel port on one unit to link directly to the computer, I don't see anyway to link the second unit to it. The only thing I can think of is that you would need a second parallel port connector on the computer itself, i.e., both units connected individually, not daisy chained.

Do the USB models also have the parallel port connector on them plus USB? If that were the case, I could imagine how you could connect them and then use one USB connection to the computer.

Escondido is pretty nice this time of year! Actually I live in North County, but Escondido is the closest town and my postal address.

Sorry. You're talking Windows. Not my language. Check your manual.

LOL ... OK ... can you do it on the Mac? I'm handy with Windows. It's the MOTU MIDI Timepiece side of things I can't figure out. Since the unit only has one serial port, if you used that to link two together there would be none left over to link to the computer. I can see how to can be used 'stand alone' ... but not linked.

It's somewhat moot anyway ... as apparently there are no 64 bit drivers for the parallel port units.

But I am curious how you do this on a Mac ... unless you mean two serial ports on the computer. In which case the units aren't really 'linked.'
