Feature request: Automap compatibility for MAS plug-ins
I'd love to be able to control MAS plug-ins using Novation's Automap software and my Nocturn controller.
I wonder if it'd be possible for MOTU to create some sort of Automap-compatible 'wrapper' for the MAS versions of the Masterworks Collection plug-ins (i.e., the ones included with DP), since they've already created AU-compatible versions. That'd be a great start, since the MW EQ is my go-to EQ plug.
But ideally, we'd be able to control any MAS plug with Automap.
I think it's very unlikely Novation will ever do the work to make Automap MAS-compatible; the user base is just not large enough compared to VST, AU, and RTAS. So if this were to happen, it'd probably have to come from MOTU.
(At Novation's web site, I found an article that said versions of Logic before 9.01 were not standard AU format, so they wouldn't work with Automap. The implication is that starting with 9.01, Logic's plugs ARE standard AU format, but they don't say that explicitly. My point is that the change appears to have come from the DAW developer, not Novation. I think there would be lots of advantages for the end user if MOTU transitioned DP's plugs from MAS to AU...)
I'll be sending this to MOTU's suggestion box.

DP's OSC interface for control surfaces allows bi-directional communication between a controller and any function that DP's OSC implementation covers, which of course includes plug-in parameter automation.
This in effect allows a controller to automatically map itself to any plugin regardless of the format, because all automation parameter data is transferred between the host (DP) and the controller over OSC; the controller never has to "see" the plugin like is required with Automap currently.

Yep. Count me in!
I love automap pro with the nocturn. It makes UAD plugins more easy to tweak. I would love to have MW Eq automaped...

For those of us not familiar with Novation's Automap features, could you describe it briefly, and tell us how it works? Sounds intriguing.

Here's a demo video from NAMM 2008:

And here's some info at the Novation web site:

Hope this helps.

+! MIDI implementation for plugin control within DP is soooo poor. for example I can't believe we can't enter multimode filter sweeps with a CC MIDI learn, we have to setup a MIDI track and enter it with MIDI notes on a keyboard OMG.

It's really awesome, Shoosh.Shooshie wrote:For those of us not familiar with Novation's Automap features, could you describe it briefly, and tell us how it works? Sounds intriguing.
Not only do their controllers have tons of er, controls, like tons of knobs, faders, pots, etc., but the controlling software works seamlessly.
The software is a-ma-zing. In theory, you open the Automap server, and it detects whatever you have opened, mapped and ready to be used.
Now, in REALITY, at least I always end up ignoring those mappings and creating my own, the way I like them with my own idiosyncrasies. Just like I created my awesome controller maps for all VSL related stuff. I could not picture myself heavily programming it without it.
It's so easy to program. You can do it with Automap or with Advanced Mode (which you program all on your own, but it's quite easy).
It took me years to make myself get one of these controllers.... How I wish I had done it earlier. I LOVE working like this.
