Clicks Pops via Lightpipe connection between 828MkII & 8Pre

Post by JarrodEp »

Hi everyone. This my first post, sorry if I'm asking a question that's been answered a bunch before. I check the old posts and couldn't find my exact issue...
I just connected my 828MkII to an 8 pre, via 2 lightpipes ("in" from 828 ADAT to "out" 8 pre ADAT and vice versa)
When my audio system clock is set to internal, I get clicks and pops in the incoming audio tracks brought from the 8 pre, only. When I set my audio system clock to "ADAT Optical," I get clicks and pops in the incoming audio tracks from the 828, only.
How do I get the 8Pre to slave to the 828 via ADAT? At this point I can only really get one of the two to have a signal without clicks and pops. I've heard some things about a 3rd lightpipe for sync issues, but I don't really know what that's all about. Thanks so much everyone.

If you're sure about having your connections in the right place, then you may just need to increase the samples per buffer. Try setting it at 512 for 44.1/48, if doing 88.2/96 may have to double that.

Peace,
Billy

Thanks man. Yeah, all my connections are secure and correct. All my sample rates are matched @ 44.1 and my buffer size is pretty much always at 1024. Crackle/pops are still happening.
I'm starting to think that this must be a clock sync issue. I guess I just need to sync the 828mkii and the 8pre. Unfortunately, can't really figure out how to slave the 8pre to the 828mkii's internal clock. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Well, it should happen with the clock set to internal.
What software version are you using? It may be that you need to update. My son has my old MkII and was having problems until a couple of the more recent versions.
Also, are you using a Texas Instruments chipset on your Firewire card?

I am using Digital Performer 7.21 (the most recent version of DP)
Also I'm using the internal card on my iMac.

I'm sorry, I meant to ask whether or not you were using the most recent firewire driver update for your Motu. They just released a new one about a week or two ago.

P.S. Aren't you in the wrong place if using a mac, this area deals with Windows?

If the 8pre is connected using FireWire along with ADAT, disconnect the fw cable. The 8pre should automatically sync with the 828 with only ADAT connections.
