Motu 24 I/O malfuntion (disco lights)
Hi there,
I have a Motu 2408 MkIII and a 24I/O hooked up to a PCI-Express 424, all was running swimmingly until I turned on the 24I/O recently only to realise a few minutes later that the display was completely blank (no lights on at all even the clock rate) I turned the device on an off and it went through its usual procedure but ended up just flashing on the 44.1 light. After about five minutes of sitting flashing, the meter lights all flashed on, spazzed out through a couple of random patterns and the unit went blank again.
The 2408 is fine, through either of the two audiowire cables. The unit is an ex-repair model and is still under warranty till the middle of Nov.
Any opinions? Should I return it?
Cheers.
EDIT:
Should probably add that I'm on Win 7 Ultimate 64, Intel i7, 12GB RAM. Only significant change is that I recently updated the drivers for my 5.1 sound card I also have installed in the system (Asus Xonar D2/PM) but as the 2408 and all MOTU software seems to be in order I'm inclined to think that it's a error with the unit not anything else.

If I were you, I would definitely return the unit while it's under warranty. I also have a 2408 Mk3 and 24I/O connected via a PCI Express 424 card on Windows 7 x64 and have never seen behaviour like this.

Does it work fine when not connected to firewire? If so, it sounds like a blown firewire interface chip to me. Send it back, at least you HAVE a warranty. I had to fix a Traveler Mk2 on my own.

Nah the unit just flashes 44.1 when not connected to the card.
I'm going to end up returning it, it was an ex-repair model anyway so I'm guessing they maybe didn't do a very good job last time.
Cheers

These units are not FireWire. They connect to MOTU proprietary PCIX-424/PCIe-424 'audiowire' cards and are generally a lot more stable than the FireWire interfaces under Windows.Th3_uN1Qu3 wrote:Does it work fine when not connected to firewire? Re: Motu 24 I/O malfuntion (disco lights)
Hello there, I have the same problem, but unfortunately I cannot return it, because we use it for 3 years already. After plugging 24 I/O to another pc it did the same as described in the first post – disco lights on 24 I/O, and totally flashing on MK3. Nothing helped – nether plugging to another pc, neither changing the pci slots… PC doesn’t see it anymore, and sound card has no reaction at all…
Another problem is that this product was registered before, and nobody remembers the user name and password, so I can’t contact MOTU administration.
Does anybody know what should I do next? Send this hardware to MOTU to fix it or is there any other way to fix it myself?

I'd have to check my records, but I think my 24I/O was out of warranty when it malfunctioned.
I called MOTU and got a Return Authorization #, and a charge to a CC for $99.00 (I think).
The replacement unit came rather quickly. 4-5 days as I recall.
Hope this helps...

Edit: just remembered: I bought this unit on eBay, and did have to provide MOTU with proof of purchase to get my name associated with this unit.

Re: Motu 24 I/O malfuntion (disco lights)
I forgot to update this for the longest time - the "disco lights" on the Mk2 Traveler i had in were caused by wrong drivers. When i gave it back to the owner he had the same issue with the latest drivers. He then used the original CD that came with the interface and all the issues went away.
Maybe the new drivers are MK3 only but noone bothered to mention that.
