How can I set the first measure be measure 0 in DP7?

Post by skittlegirl »

Hi,

I wanted to set the first measure of a sequence be 0(zero) but I cannot find how to do it. I remember it was under "Tempo Control" drawer in DP4.6.... Can anybody let me know how I can do it on DP7.21?

Thanks in advance!

Project Menu> Modify Conductor Track> Insert [1] Measure "at beginning of sequence"

If you get a SMPTE warning, don't worry. If you're *not* using SMPTE, just click OK with the "maintain...." button selected. If you *are* using SMPTE, adjust your SMPTE start time to accommodate the newly added measure.

Thank you so much, Frodo. I could add "measure 0" by using the insert measures command which you told me. I checked "Maintain all times following the insertion point" then the added measure was 0(zero).

Thanks!!

Is this the same as "Set Chunk Start" and just changing the starting measure to zero? Then, if you want an accurate run time, locate the wiper to the start of measure 1, note the real time at that point, then enter that number as a negative number in the start time. This is how I make sure I have accurate elapsed time when working on a song.

True-- in the chunks window you can set the first measure to 0 to the same effect.... if you want the first measure to be measure 0. If you set the first measure to be -1, it will "add" two measures, actually.

I guess at the time going the Add Measure route seemed easier to explain. In the chunks window, there's only one chunk if you're just getting started. One thing that used to trip me up is that with only one default chunk it's easy to forget to highlight the chunk to activate the Set Chunk Start prompt.

Yeah... my situation is usually simple as I only use one chunk generally and I'm never slaved to picture. I find for pop songs I start my chunk at measure -1 and then enter a negative offset in the starting time as well so I get an accurate run time.

Is there any appreciable difference between the two methods? I mean, if you modify the conductor track you might have to reset the chunk start anyway. Sounds like resetting chunks does it all. Hmm.

Dunno. :) I just sort of was skimming topics and just thew in another way to do it, depending on how you work, etc. :)

i do the same here. -1 gets me two for free to set up volumes, keyswitches and in the old days patch changes. works great for scoring to picture as well

Thank you, guys!

I see, I guess the "Set times…" option which was in DP4.6 became "Set Chunk Start" (and maybe that's why I couldn't find the option in DP7 anymore). I'm still not that familiar with Chunks but I think setting Chunk start 0 or -1 would be a little closer to what I imagined, but I'll try both methods and find the one that works the best.

Not to belabor the point, as the contributors in this thread know what they're doing and the OP solved her problem, but Insert Measures actually adds measures, while Set Chunk Start… simply changes the existing measures' numbering.

Right. That's why I generally shift everything over afterward. Usually I have already given myself a couple of bars for a count in. It's SOP for how I work.
