Ultralite help please

Post by bgreen »

I am having a problem with my Ultralite. It's the model that is firewire only, the original I believe. It's on A/C power. I am using it with windows 7 64 bit, sonar 8 producer and a 6 pin to 4 pin cable between my Ultralite and my Vaio laptop. It's a newer model Vaio and has plenty-o-power to get the job done. So here's my problem:

I am running my acoustic guitar into the Mic/Ins line 1 input and have a track in Sonar armed and ready to record. I can see the meters in sonar moving and that is great. However, when I adjust the fader on the motu unit it doesn't change the signal level going into sonar. I can turn my #1 input fader all the way down and also turn the fader all the way down on Mix 1 and I still get the same levels on the armed track in sonar. I've checked to see if any of my input echo's were on but none are. I can record audio without having to adjust levels. The only thing that the faders seem to change is my main outs which are connected to my studio monitors. I don't know what is causing this and it's really frustrating. Any and all help is appreciated.

I do not have an Ultralite so I could be wrong...

BUT... the input Sonar derives is pre-fader. The only thing that will affect the level of the input signal going into Sonar is the trim knob. The Mix is merely for monitoring purposes and not level purposes.

That's correct. The audio that reaches Sonar is independent of the CueMix mixer.
The leading cause of wrong answers is asking the wrong questions.

So I would have to use a mixer to run my mic or guitar into and then into the Motu in order to controll my levels in Sonar? Kind of dissapointing for such an expensive piece of kit.

No. Again, adjust the trim/gain knob on your Ultralite to change the input level going into Sonar. The faders on the mixer within Sonar and the faders within CueMix FX are only for when you want to make a mix -not for establishing input levels.
