Setting up a Motu 2408 MkII

Post by mowatz »

I am trying to set up a small recording studio using the motu 2408 MkII. I am using a SoundCraft Spirit E12 as my input mixer and Cuebase SE for my computer software. The computer is a Dell running an Intel Celeron 1200Mhz, with 1.20Ghz 512 MB Ram and Windows XP. I am trying to record to the hard drive and once I have all the tracks down, then mix and add effects and put on CD.

This is my first time setting this up and I'm not sure I'm setting this up correctly. I am running a Peavey PVM 38 microphone through the Soundcraft channel 1. Then output from the insert plug to the motu 2408 channel one input. When I set up a project in Cuebase, I set up an empty project and add tracks one at a time.

I tried using the headphone jack on the front of the motu 2408, but the sound is weak and I increase the the volume I get a high pitched noise. There also seems to be a lot of noise when I select the monitor button on the channel I want record in Cuebase. Also when I try to record a second channel the sound is like in a tin can. Is this the latency issue?

Can someone help me with my set up?

Hi

How are you connecting the mixer to the 2408mkII?

As I understand you go unbalanced from mixer into the motu.

Maybe you need to set the jumper inside the 2408mkII to -10db.

And check out cue mix. Maybe you have a loop somewhere.

Best regards.

Check so you have the PCI 424 selected as your audio driver in Cubase.

Also check if the 2408 MkII is set on -10dBv or + 4dBu.
It´s changable in the MOTU audio setup program that came with the 2408 MkII.
Here you also have to enable all the I/O channels you´re gonna use.
analog / TDIF/ ADAT/ SPDIF

Check Cuemix.

You might have adressed the input channel (microphone) thru your mixing console aswell the mix return signal from Cubase cousing a doubled signal and loop..
