Crashes in DP7.12u

Post by Prime Mover »

There are two problems I'm having, one I think being user error, but the other being constant crashing.

The crashing only started since upgrading from 7.1 to 7.12u, so I'm thinking that this is a bug. I notice that when leaving on audio track record-enabled, if I scrub around in the timeline, or click to a new entry point, the system beachballs, and I have to eventually force it down. Now that I think about it, I also upgraded Kontakt from version 3-4 at the same time as upgrading DP, so maybe Kontakt 4 isn't playing nice?

Secondly, suddenly I've found that when trying to draw in MIDI notes, that they're not playing back. Audible Mode is on, and I've fiddled with the "MIDI Thru" preferences, with no success. The best I can do is turn on MIDI echoing and record-enable whatever track I'm working on. But that's a pain. Any other ideas of how MIDI notes might not sound even when in Audible Mode?

Don't know about this one. I'll have to try and reproduce but hasn't happened to me. FYI the version is just 7.12. The "u" is just a suffix MOTU adds to their installers that I suppose stands for "update."

If you're working with VIs, this is just standard behavior and has been since DP 6 when VI pre rendering was introduced. If a VI is not set to "Run in Realtime" you will get this behavior. The reason it goes away when you record enable the track is that this temporarily puts the VI on realtime mode. So does opening the VI's GUI. You can set VIs whose tracks you're planning on editing to "Run in Realtime" to avoid this, or record enable the MIDI track targeting the VI. Since there's a rec-enable button at the top of the MIDI graphic editor, I haven't really found rec-enabling the track much of a "pain" as you describe it.

On further study, I notice that it has nothing to do with weather an audio track is record enabled. DP7.12 goes down frequently when I move the playback head to a new location, no matter what its current state. However, it ONLY crashes then, no other crashes reported.

For a moment I thought the u stood for unregistered. LOL

Now, now... j/k!

BTW, it's 79 degrees here. Doesn't seem to be affecting DP's performance. ;)

i've been getting a series of crashes again since upgrading to DP 7.2. Should I delete unused/extra files? How do I go about this? Please advise. Thanks. :(
