Keep an eye out on craigslist I guess? You can sometimes google "craigslist" + the item you're looking for and it will return results around the country. You then can try and convince that person you're not writing them from Nigeria and see if they'll take PayPal and ship it to you.Festerplink wrote:Where is the best place to buy a used MOTU HD192 interface, I have 2, need a 3rd quickly but dont want to pay for a new one. ebay is pointless for me, Harmony Central has shrunk

The thing is you can't really find those sorts of deals unless you make it a point to check craigslist frequently. There is also an iPhone app that will notify you when something pops up that meets your search criteria, but the push notifications can be hours late. So you have to be willing to have the iPhone app, like Craigslist Pro, and check multiple times throughout the day.
Here's the breakdown as I see it for trying to get good deals on used gear:
1) eBay -- not likely unless it's a niche product not many people are looking for. The "auction/competition mentality" can take over and often times used gear sells for more than I think it should. Sometimes almost as much as new.
2) Craigslist -- most people selling have unreasonable expectations about what they should get for things. You can make an offer and wait till a seller comes to his/her senses, but it may take a week or more of someone doggedly hanging on to their fantasy price for something. Best bet is to check craigslist several times a day. Every so often, something WILL pop up at a good price. You can search eBay's completed auctions to get an idea of the "going" price. But if you see a deal pop up on craigslist, you need to figure out what you're going to do ASAP, and then shoot the seller an email immediately saying "I'll take it!" I also suggest that if it's something you want, and it's already a good deal, don't be cute and haggle. They'll likely have emails coming in after yours offering their full asking price. I just got a Sennheiser MD421 for $120 recently by keeping an eye out on my local craigslist.
Problem is getting a "deal" is almost impossible if you're on a time crunch and in the "I need it now!" mode. Interfaces like the HD192 don't just pop up everywhere. Again, if you can delay it, you might google for used ones and also search on "HD192 craigslist." That will often return craigslist postings from other cities, and as I said before, you may be able to convince the seller that you're for real, eager to buy, and they may ship. But you also have to be willing to risk PayPal-ing someone the money when you don't necessarily have the same safeguards you might have via eBay.
Good luck.
