828 mk3 problems/help?

Post by blondie-jayne »

Hi,

This is my first post here. Got my motu 828 mk3 last week and have it up and running with cubase 5 on my dell studio 1730 laptop. When I try and move the buffer size from 1024(or whatever) down to even 520(or whatever it is) it glitches and squeals. I need it at 256 to monitor vsti's without noticable latency but cubase crashes if I try to put it below. I have 4gb of ram also on the laptop and though it could handle it!?

I'm also having a problem with the firewire device losing connection during a session and I get a "no motu device detected" and hear the hardware being disconnected sound. Would really love to hear some suggestions from some experienced guys here! Thanks B-)

How is it connected up to the laptop? Is it plugged into the built in firewire port or have you fitted a Express card firewire port?

It may have a something to do with the in built firewire chipset on you computer. I know people with similar problems that have been fix by installing an express card with a TI (texas instrument) chipset.

This is a good one http://www.sonnettech.com/product/fwusb ... ard34.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; or this one http://www.sonnettech.com/product/fw800 ... ard34.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; but you will need a firewire 400 to 800 adapter.

Just to confirm.. is the 6 pin firewire cable 800 speed?? I've got 6 pin to 4 pin going into my laptop. If I get a Ti chipset card will i be able to get speeds of 800??? thanks!

No, the 6-pin is not FW800.

The mk3 FW products are FW400 but are forwards-compatible with FW800. Check your Device Manager to see what chipset you computer has for the onboard FW port. A TI chipset is essential to smooth operation. Make sure all drivers are up-to-date on your machine. Various components can interfere with the proper operation of the FW port, so you may also need to disable hardware or software.
