New Build Concerns

Post by soundcheckers »

Hi guys... I have some free time and I'm diving into a new build. I have read a few threads regarding the compatibility between a few of these components, but nothing definitive, so I thought I'd ask you guys...

Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit
Cubase 5
MOTU-424 pci-e
UAD-2
ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 or Gigabyte X58A-UD3R
i7-930
6 gigs Mushkin Ram

Of course I'll be running music apps and plugs @ 32 bit

The concerns I have are between the mobo, the Motu-424, and the UAD-2
I was leaning toward the Gigabyte X58 mobo but read a few posts that there were issues with MOTU and UAD-2...

Thoughts?

Update:

Just ordered the Gigabyte X58A-UD3R with the above components and frankly, I'm nervous as hell to even break the seal after reading a few threads regarding the Motu/Giga "minefield."

Could someone PLEASE chime in and give me some advice? Return Giga for an Asus P6T series? I called MOTU regarding my concerns and of course they have no idea of what I'm talking about which is typical of MOTU tech support. Do the latest drivers work with Win7 64 and Giga?
PLEASE experts.. Throw this dog a bone and help me out.

Thanks...

Personally I would always take ASUS over GIGA but saying that a friend uses a GIGABIT board with his HD192 with no issues. Myself I would continue using a 32bit operating system until all my plugins are made 64bit as well. Bit if you use a lot of samplers I can see the benefit of using 64bit OS just beware some of your favorite plugins my not work.

Yeah.. I hear ya... Decided to go with the Asus P6TD Deluxe. Don't wanna deal with any issues.
Even though I'm going to be running Win7 64, I'll still be running 32 bit apps (C5, Wavelab6,) so my 32bit plugs will work and I'll be able to get the benefit of 12G RAM.. :D
