MTP-AV missing MIDI ports

Post by guitardood »

Hi Folks,
I've got a MTP-AV USB and have seemed to hit some ceiling in windows XP. First, I'm running XP-SP3 32-bit on a quad-core intel in an ASUS board. I've got the MTP-AV hooked up via usb and it has been working. I recently had to shut-down all the studio equipment and when I rebooted, windows wasn't seeing the MTPAV at all(I"ve had this before and a reboot usually resolved). I've also updated the Driver for the USB MIDI WDM to the latest from MOTU's website. Now for some reason only 5 of the 8 ports are showing up in windows. If I reinstall the MIDI-Over-Lan driver(use 4 ports communication to my softsynth machine) than only one of the MTP-AV ports show up. If I uninstall the MOL software I'm back to the 4 MOL ports and 1 MTPAV, specifically, MTPAV:ADAT port. I'm really kind of stuck as i'm using all eight ports on the motu for various outboard gear. One other thing to not is that when windows does see the 5 ports their orderd 51234 instead of 12345. Very weird. I've seen some posts about trouble with USB MIDI and XP and have tried all the posted solutions i've been able to google to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Best,

If I recall correctly, Windows XP limits the number of MIDI ports. I think the limit is twenty-four. So if you have a virtual MIDI device (such as MIDI Over LAN) or another interface installed alongside the MTP-AV, the total number of MIDI ports might be exceeding the limit.
The leading cause of wrong answers is asking the wrong questions.
