motu 2408/ pci 424 cpu increase!

I just upgraded from the original motu 896 (yup) to the 2408 with the pci card. Since that change my CPU demand has increased around %50. I cannot even work on some projects because they are too demanding all of a sudden. Does anyone have any ideas about what may have casued this? I have checked all the usual things like buffer size (high as possible) and other settings. IDeas? Thanks.
