After experiencing many, many crashes, I think I've identified a function that MachFive doesn't handle correctly. I'd love to hear from others.
I can create a M5 parameter, such as pitch or amplitude, that responds to poly aftertouch. When I play from my MIDI keyboard, pressing even two keys at different speeds, I get the sounds I expect. But if I record a passage of MIDI which contains note-on, note-off and lots of poly aftertouch messages, and then play it back, I always experience a crash.
If I replace poly aftertouch by channel pressure in the M5 preset, and repeat the record/playback process, this time with channel pressure, I hear what I recorded, and there are no crashes.
I also own Logic9.0.2, so I tried running the M5 via Logic. I couldn't even get a sound from M5 by clicking on its keyboard -- it crashed immediately. So, as far as I can tell I get crashes with the following combination: M5 + presets that use poly aftertouch. Otherwise M5, DP6.0.3, and Logic9.0.2 all seem to work fine.
Anyone got an insight?
best,
Lou
