emulating the pops, cracks and tone of old vinyl
I apologize if this has been discussed, my search turned up nothing.
Is there a convincing way to get one's modern recording to sound like its being played from an old 78 record- including tone and all id the clicks and pops. I am wanting to make the first 10 sec or so of a country tune that I am recording sound like it came from yesteryear then in stark contrast bring it back to modern sound. I also would like suggestions on eq tricks to get the best result. Thanks.

But wait, there is another way. Locate an old recording online (there are plenty of free ones at various sites). Sample the surface noise before the recording start and loop it. Then use it as a background.
In the "old days" when I needed that sound but the internet had not been invented yet, I could get away with making the sound with my mouth (it's true!) and EQ'ing it. That was on a TEAC 2340, BTW. Still have the recording and it sounds as good as the real thing. Maybe better. OK, maybe not...

+1 for vinyl.
Very easy to tweak to taste.
In my DP clipping window there are
- a 10 seconds stereo silence
- a basic 10 seconds stereo *vinyl* silence
They get much use nowadays.
With these two, plus the DP *smooth audio edit* feature, I feel comfortable with tough editing tasks.

Izotope vinyl worked unbelievable great. I did do a little extra pre vinyl EQ work but man I am just ecstatic. You guys really helped me out this time. What a fantastic plug in. And best of all, it was free. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!!!
