Something weird....

Post by Dan Walsh »

I just can't figure this out. I set DP 7.1 to show 5 inserts on the mixing board. Then I will instantiate the EQ plug on one of the inserts. When I do this, a new row of inserts is automatically displayed so that now I have 6 inserts. I go back and reset the mixer window to show 5 inserts and everything goes back to normal. Then I instantiate another plug in, and bang, another row of inserts.

I've looked all thru the DP preferences and I cannot find a master setting. This is obviously (for me) something new.

Am I missing something somewhere......?? It's not a biggie, but I don't wanna clutter the mixer with unused inserts.

This only happens for me if I instantiate the plugin in the lowest (closest to the fader) insert slot. There will always be one row of empty slots at the bottom. I can't recall if this is new in 7.x or 7.1.

Now that you mention it, I was inserting plugs on the bottom row also. I Guess I could start at the top, but I generally use an EQ as the last thing in line depending on what plugs I use.

I didn't have this behaviour in 7.02

I think DP adds inserts when needed as part of 7.1 having the insert preset feature. Sounds like your behavior is linked to that.

It does. This is one of the new and welcome features on 7.1. Only happens when you add a plugin to the lowest insert slot.

Thank you all. The feature does make sense now. I just gotta break my old habbit of goin' to that last insert first all the time :o

Funny, I too always add my plugs in the last slot first. Must be something to do with being able to see what's going on quickly.

I've noticed that and will have to change my ways too.
I always have a Trim plug in the lowest row of every audio and aux track. My purpose is to lay down some sort of *pre-mix*, before mixing. That is to say : adjusting levels between tracks, while faders are still set to unity.
