otu MIDI Express 128 or XT + Windows7x64 and Cubase x64

Post by MFX »

Hi

I need a decent, compatible and reliable 8x8 MIDI interface.

From what I can see the Motu MIDI Express 128 is not Windows7 compatible is this correct?
Are there any windws7x64 bit drivers?
Any experience with dropout and poor MIDI dely/timings or crashing with x64 W7 and Cubase5x64
Any one using the 8x8 with Windows7x64 and Cubase x64 please?
Others I am looking at is the ESI 8x8's as they have the class compliant drivers but i am not convinved on the timing of 'CC' in windows7x64 .
Which unit should I be considering for hooking up 7 pieces of MIDI kit for low latency etc?

I am pretty novice but need something reliable and responsive

Many thanks

Hi

I'm with you on this one!

Actually, there's a driver for x64 systems. The problem is that at least on my system the driver doesn't load correctly systematically.

Another issue with MIDI Xpress 128 is that is not powering down on system power down! Perhaps because of that it doesn't load correctly. My unit is racked and it's a pain in the ass to go and plug and unplug it every time. Luckily it's still accessible at the back, but it won't be soon. So, we can as well just change the interface.

Best regards

Thanks for response.

Have gone ahead and purchased the MOTU 128 and seems to work fine except...

Since install I occassionally get the BSOD but have yet to pin it down to the MOTU, could be coincidence or could be the cause.

Did have inital problems with driver install and unit being identified but seemed to move pass that problem after a total deinstall, ccleaner and dergistry cleanser routine!

Ass for the powerdown I notice that even when the PC is powered down/shutdown, but still on at the mains/rockerswitch the MOTU still flashes it's little green light at me. Which is more of an annoyance than an issue but may be linked to your PC shut down haging problem.

There are some new MIDI drivers up now .. haven't dared try them yet though as, apart from the power down problem, the old drivers work OK here.

Thanks Tony going to check out the new drivers.

BSOD still happening and is appears to be the MIDI interface :(

No biggy but annoying, not lost work yet!

Seems the unit doesn't always sync properly on boot up. In other words sometimes all the MIDI in lights will be illuminated on rather than just the computer I/O green LED. Unpluggin and repluggin the USB on the back works but can be tedious...not that often thankfully.

Hopefully new drivers will sort it

Yes, I get instability using the 128 sometimes when the PC hasn't been switched off at the mains.
So I have got into the habit of always turning off the power supply switch when I shut down my daw.
Never had a problem since.
I'm hoping too that these drivers fix this problem .. but as usual there is absolutely NO info available on what the new drivers fix.
