I'm still puzzling over how to incorporate a recently purchased drive into my aging but agile DP system.
With a PPC G5 2.3DC set up that includes only 2 internal (SATA) HD's, which is the smartest way to distribute media/resources>?:
500GB internal SATA -> Boot OS, VI's
1TB internal SATA -> Audio
or
500GB internal SATA -> Boot OS
1TB internal SATA -> VI's and Audio
or
500GB internal SATA -> (Partition A) Boot OS
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx(Partition B) VI's
1TB internal SATA -----> Audio
~or~
Will I realize significant performance improvement and longevity if I add a PCIe sATA card and an external (3rd altogether) drive?
and
If so, which should be allocated to the external drive: VI's or audio?
Thank you, and sorry if I'm sounding like a broken record (looped audio in this century's terminology) but this is such a great place to learn.
And James, if this belongs in hardware forum, please feel free to move it; since it is for use with DP, I am guessing it belongs here. As always, your call, and apologies if I guessed wrong.

Partitions aren't really the way to go but if it's the only way... I've seen some modifications online for getting a few more HD's in the G5's... they definitely have the space in there! I'd google and see what comes up. It's been a while since I messed with G5's so I don't remember if there's an extra SATA buss connector on the logic board or if they used a RAID card. Sorry if it wasn't what you were looking for but it seems you'd be creating the same bottleneck however you do it with 2 drives.
If you get a SATA card you'd benefit from it. I'd go with a 10k rpm velociraptor. They stay right with SSD's for writes... the reads are slower but nothing to worry about. But I'd stay away from the partitions but you do as you'd like.

I have my rig setup like this:
boot drive OS VI's etc....
2nd internal : samples
external sata drives for audio
when and if I ever get my next (Intel)Mac,I will do this:
boot drive OS VI's etc....
2nd and 3rd internal hd's : samples
Audio on 4th drive and backups on external SATA's
my 2 cents
