Anyone see new Miroslav strings at NAMM?

Post by frankymax »

Hey, I went to NAMM on Friday but I just realized I didn't see the new Miroslav String Library being demo-ed anywhere. Did anyone see or hear anything about it? I really wanted to wait on buying LASS until I heard the new Miroslav Strings, as if I buy LASS I won't want to spend $ on Miro's.
Decisions, decisions....!

I realize it's nowhere near as high of quality as you're talking about, but if you don't have IKMultimedia's Miroslav Philharmonik, get it as quickly as possible. The quality of the sample set is high enough for me that I never wound up lusting after EWQLSO or Vienna; I'm almost positive you can get in the ballpark of either or those two sample sets without all the extra aggravation, and if you use a high-quality convolution reverb (with early reflections turned off; they're pretty wet), they're virtually indistinguishable in the context of a full orchestra.

They are not out yet. I asked them and they are not even close to finish.

On the other hand listen to the new Hollywood Strings:

It's gonna make your decision about buying LASS a lot more difficult, trust me! :)

Thanks for the link to the Hollywood String Library. Wow, what a long demo! I thought it sounded good, but it didn't knock me out sound-wise compared to LASS. The LASS library is on sale right now till Jan 25 for $999, and that might be too good of a deal to pass up on. Since it seems the Miroslav library isn't going to be ready any time soon, I may have to get the LASS deal now. I love the way LASS handles portamento and glisses, as well as it's staccatos and runs. The Hollywood Strings had nice runs, but their portamento didn't seem as good as LASS's. It's all a matter of personal preferences, though. I could definitely see that some would like Hollywood Strings over the LASS strings, but I think I'm really leaning more toward the LASS at this point. Now to rob a bank!!! :)

Or if you don't need the First Chairs or divisi capabilities right away you could always go for LASS Lite, I think it's only $450 right now and I'm sure the upgrade paths will be reasonable.

I was ready to buy the Lite version planning to eventually upgrade, but now that I heard HS I'm not sure if I want to commit! The runs, measured tremolos, staccatos sound just too good. IMO the legato playing sounds very close to LASS level (LASS is maybe a bit more realistic, but HS seems to sound fuller right out the box).
Also, after hearing the last piece, you can tell that HS blends very good with other instruments.

My only concern is what kind of futuristic Main Frame are we gonna need to run that library...
