Data recovery
OK I figured it out how to post a new post on this new skin. Data recovery people saved my hard drive but sent me a few .rsc files to see if they work. They wont open or launch. USELESS to me. anyone ever deal with this? dp4.61
Thanks, DD

Re: Data recovery
Go get DATA RESCUE II and do it yourself if the drive still spins and isn't dead.
And remember the golden rule: BACK UP!

Re: Data recovery
Thanks Newrigel, It is actually in the hands of the recovery company already.
My new question has to do with compatibility:
He sent me a recovery report and he said everything was salvageable. Great. He sent me a few files but they are "unix executable files". And my system doesn't know what to do with them. It says choose app but DP is greyed out.
Being a computer third-grader, I'm not sure what/if I can do with these. Since he doesn't have DP on his system, it didnt know what to change the files into? In the recovery report, it lists all the projects that I remember and all of the audio files, fades, etc. It calls every other file a .rsc file. I believe they are all SDII in DP? He then said, If I order a clone of the drive it will be just that and should work fine. Being $600 into this I'd rather not add $100. I Don't mind doing it if it yields results, but...
Is this UNIX step a brief in-between phase temporarily caused but the system/software that he used? Sort of a binary limbo?
Will creating the clone allow the info to be arranged back on the disc in a usable fashion? Like in DP projects? The drive was SOLELY used for DP projects.
Any info helpful, DD

Re: Data recovery
Any type of recovery will yield unrelated naming conventions for the files. You have to just audition them all to see what they are. I don't know what SW the tech is using... maybe you should ask him because they sound like resource files to me and you would need a utility to read them. You could also just try to type .sd2 and append this to the file... if it works it works.

Re: Data recovery
Sounds vaguely like they are using some sort of Windows type tool... not a Mac-friendly app. Someone posted something like this some time ago and they ended up having to call around to data recovery shops making sure they were experienced with Macintosh.
Aside from that though, I'll second the recommendation of DATA RESCUE. Amazing app that has saved my butt before.

I was thinking the same thing. I think it might have something to do with this;James Steele wrote:Sounds vaguely like they are using some sort of Windows type tool... not a Mac-friendly app. ...

Re: Data recovery
Thanks to all who replied. I am moving this topic to the DP section of this forum as it is now a question of how to reassemble projects on the drive. (the layout of DP) Please no more replies on General Macintosh.
