Updating G5 (dual 1.8) to Snow Leopard / DP7
This has probably been addressed elsewhere on the forum, but here goes anyway . . .
I want to squeeze a few more months out of my G5 (waiting for the new MacPro to come out), and would like to use my 13" MacBook Pro as a farm with VE Pro to run Omnisphere, Stylus, and Trillian. My G5 still has 10.4.11, which I see does not work with VE Pro.
So, I'd like to clone my main drive, and replace it with a new drive before making the switch to 10.5 . . . that way, if I run into any problems, I can reinstall the old main drive and be back to where I am now.
If I clone my main drive, with the software authorizations be intact on the clone, or should I just reinstall and re-authorize everything from scratch? I am primarily concerned about Komplete, RA, BFD, and EWSO Gold. The sample libraries live on an external 4 drive esata enclosure (JBOD) . . .

There have been various threads on authorizations surviving cloning. Please do a search here at MOTUNation. Not sure that you won't have to reauthorize stuff that's not on an iLok or other dongle.
10.6 should work on your MacBook, but it is a no-go on your G5. Snow Leo is Intel-only.

Re: Updating G5 (dual 1.8) to Snow Leopard / DP7
I'm still running 10.4.11 with DP7 on my Quad G5. I do use Leo on a separate partition to run other general-purpose stuff, but see no reason to move from Tiger for DP work until an Intel allows me to go to 10.6. Under 10.5 and PPC there are some NI issues (FM8 and Absynth, I believe) and I think 10.5 is generally bulkier as an OS than Tiger.
Good luck!
Good luck!

I was planning on doing the same - staying with 10.4.11 until the new MacPro shows up. I do not relish the thought of changing the OS while everything is currently working fine. My dilemma is in using my MBP as a farm with VE pro in the meantime . . . maybe Bidule would be a better short term solution . . .

I'm also waiting on the new Mac Pro's and keeping my g5 until then, but I'm just gonna stay with 10.4.11.
I did just get a new laptop with 10.6 and moved everything over and reauthorized. Then I decided to get a bigger hard drive and more RAM, cloned the drive, and to my surprise most of my software stayed authorized. Maybe all of it, my memory's a little foggy, that was at least yesterday or the day before and I've been installing a lot of software.
