I'm considering upgrading from a Mac G5 PPC 2.0 Dual Core to a
G5 PPC 2.5 QUAD Core (non-intel) as an interim move until I can afford to buy
a Mac Pro with an Intel processor. My questions are:
1. would the Quad Core be a significant boost in power from the Dual Core
for music?
2. Is anyone here currently using the G5 PPC Quad Core? Does it work well with DP and virtual instruments in terms of track counts , etc.?
Thanks in advance,
Tom

Re: Opinions- G5 PPC 2.0 Dual Core vs.G5 Quad Core
I love my G5 Quad. Yes, I am somewhat jonesing for a Mac Pro, but am getting lots of music done in the interim. It has been rock solid for me since purchase, and I got it shortly after introduction. PCIe, so your old cards, if any, won't work. Nobody sells video cards for it (except used for top $) so don't plan on running more then two monitors. Hard for me to give you track count details, but I run a lot of VI's successfully under DP6.02 with only an occasional crash. I'm using all the stuff in my sig under OS10.4.11.
That said, I'd say go Intel if there is any way you can afford it, cause PPC is developmentally dead.
