MOTU. PLEASE. ADD THIS. It's been far too long.

Post by amplidood »

I've suggested this to MOTU several times directly. I've tried here on the board too. I know that there are ways around this, but there's absolutely no reason this can't be done.

MOTU needs to add one option to DP. One. The ability to NOT play MIDI notes when scrubbing. Leave all other audible functions alone, just allow me to turn off that one thing so when I rewind or drag the wiper I don't get BLASTED with every note in the track.

I think I've figured out the solution.

"Scrubbing" may not be the right term. "Shuttling" seems like the right term. So...what is really needed is *one* control to enable/disable triggering ANYTHING while shuttling (wiper, rewind/fast forward). I don't want to disable ANY of the other elements of Audible mode.

There could be two modes... Audible and Audible Shuttle mode. There would still be only one button. Audible only would look like it does now, then maybe option clicking it would add a wiper icon next to the speaker.

Audible mode button.........Image
This is Audible mode *minus* any shuttle triggering whatsoever. Rewinding/FastForwarding and dragging the wiper is silent.

Audible Shuttle mode button....Image
This is Audible plus all the "shuttling" functions. Now any of those same moves will do exactly what they do now.

FWIW, scrubbing MIDI notes has long been a primary suspect in the ongoing "hanging MIDI notes" question.

Okay, I don't do MIDI, but can't you just uncheck that option and they won't play?
Sorry, just a dumb ol' guitar player's POV.

MOTU's reply:

Why add it? As you can see in the picture, it's ALREADY THERE!

I'm still getting stuck MIDI notes regularly in 7.01 (also 7.0). Never realized that this could be why.. :?

I'd like to understand what's happening here a bit better. Sure, it appears that you can uncheck that option, but I don't think the OP's question was quite as simple-- or was it?

Could there be some combo of things happening with scrubbing and event chasing which might have uncovered a genuine workflow concern for the OP?

Granted, I'd be just fine to learn that there really is no problem at all, but I can't always tell if the "+1s" are for the OP's request or from the notion of unchecking the DP preference as the solution.
