For some reason, when I first started up the new Mac on last Sunday, it "pulled" info from Apple, I'm assuming, with my legal name that's on the credit card and the initial registration/Apple Care. (I'm not crazy about my "legal name"...whenever I see it I'm thinking credit cards, jury duty or the IRS!)
Also, I used too long a PW, which I did change using the OS X install disc options.
Somehow in this process, I now to have to login with my current "legal" user name (pre-provided) and enter the PW before I can get to the desktop. I'd much prefer what I had which was a straight boot to the desktop.
So, two things:
1.How do I disable the login screen and just boot straight to the desktop with no PW?
2. How do I change my user name (like where it says Log Out "XXXXXXX X XXXXX Jr.")?
It's been a long 2 weeks!

Sig change coming shortly, but I'm on a Mac Pro 2.66 Quad-Core Intel Xeon, OS 10.5.8

Hello!
Congratulation for your new computer
For your first question, go in the system preferences > account : there is small house labeled option. In the drop box (on the right), chose open a session automatically with your account name. You'll have to unlock (the lock is on the bottom left) to make the change and it will ask your password.
For the second question, It's not easy for me with my english to explain how to change your user name. One thing for sure, don't change it manually, it cause big problems.
You can find the exact procedure here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1428
If your account is brand new and there is not much in it, you can create a new user account (with the administration rights) and transfer your data from the old one...

Thanks, David.
I'll check out those options and suggestions later. (I'm on a secondary computer right now.)
