High pitch squeal fix for me!

Post by torrentg »

Hey. I'm running Windows 7 32 bit, as I've been a beta tester since 7600. Now I'm on the RTM. Anyway, I was having the crazy high pitched squeal dropouts on my Traveler. I've tried a million suggestions and many of my own because I'm a computer enthusiast. You can believe that I really know what I'm doing when it comes to PCs.

So I just did something and it has completely fixed the squeals for me. I had very minor, quick one since I did it 15 minutes ago but I'm not concerned about it. I'm downloading heavily (which I could never do and have clean audio together) and my pc is busy doing other things too, and yet all is well.

What I did was go into the device manager, right click on my Firewire card which is "LS1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller." I chose update driver software. Then browse my computer. Then let me pick from a list. Then I chose the standard "OHCI Compliant Host Controller." Basically, I set it to use a generic driver as opposed to the one Windows had installed for the card.

Please try something similar on your system if you are having firewire issues with Motu gear.

Thanks for such a great forum. :)

On a side note -

I have my onboard audio patched into inputs 5&6. I disable the motu and enable my onboard audio when playing video games. I have found that running the MOTU as the audio device when playing causes a huge hit in fps. In 2K9MLB on highest settings possible, I get 35 fps when the pitcher is ready to pitch, without MOTU. With is 20 or less.

So this way, I get the best of both worlds. Awesome sound under all Windows usage and for games, no fps hits.

Listening to music with Winamp right not and can confirm that my issue is still fixed. The squeals have not returned. This is great!
