I think my PCI card is fried
Hello everyone. I have been on hiatus for a few years and now I am firing up the old gear again and have run into a problem right out of the gate. My 2408mk3 is not seeing the PCI card and the Mac is not seeing it either. (G4 Dual 1.25) I pulled the PCI card and reseated it in another slot and no change. I figure that the card has somehow gone bad. Any other trouble shooting ideas? If the card is bad, what do I need to do to replace it? Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Do you have the correct drivers installed? The drivers are a little bit OS finicky so you will need to match them to what you are running. Try that first -- you may not have a problem.
You also don't say which PCI card you have. The 324 isn't supported past 10.3.7 (although I got mine working under 10.4). There are three drivers for the 424: 10.3.7 and earlier, 10.3.9, 10.4/10.5.
A G4 should work with the 424 or 424x card so that shouldn't be your issue. Have you burnished the Firewire cable - unplug and re-seat in each socket three times. Corroded sockets aren't supposed to happen but they do.
I see you also have an 828MkII. Disconnect it from the computer before testing the PCI card. Once you get the 2408 working, you will need to daisy-chain the 828 into the 2408 through an optical/ADAT cable to use both devices simultaneously with DP.
If you can't get the PCI card functioning, use an optical cable to make your 2408 eight channels of extension to the 828.

Re: I think my PCI card is fried
Mike, thanks for the reply. I downloaded the most recent drivers from Motu just in case and still no good. I've never had my 828 connected to the desktop computer so that's not a factor. Right now I am using the 828 instead. I guess I'll contact Motu and see what it's gonna cost me to get a new card. Thanks again.

In the mean time, you can use an optical cable to use your 2408 to add 8 channels of audio, ADAT or TASCAM
