828mk 2 usb has stopped working with Vista

hi everyone ,i have had my 828mk2 usb for about a year now and used it with my previous laptop (pentium 4 2.4ghz) with windows xp until february this year when i bought a new Dell vostro 1710 laptop (core 2 duo 2.1ghz with 4gb ram 512mb graphics card) now having heard all the horror stories about Vista i was a bit worried about it being pre installed on the vostro but i thought hey i will give it a go ,it all worked great with very little effort and has done until this week when i updated my DAW (Reaper) and the 828 driver as soon as i had done it it all stopped working so it rolled it all back and still no joy ,what it does is when you hit play it plays for between 10 and 15 seconds the the sound drops out but the daw is still running then it cuts back in with the audio then the MIDI out light lights up on the 828 then the whole thing freezes for about 30 seconds it keeps doing this constantly ,if i unplug the 828 and use the internal audio with ASIO4ALL driver it all works perfectly .Now i have formatted the hard disk partitioned it and re-installed vista from scratch installed the original drivers (from original driver disk) for the 828 and previous version of Reaper and i still get the same fault ,if i plug the 828 into my old xp laptop i get perfect performance as i used to get with that laptop so i don't think its hardware i have tried new USB cable and different usb ports on the vostro and still the same fault ,it seems odd to me that i could install the 828 drivers and reaper when i first got the laptop and get great results and then install the same stuff on a fresh install of vista and get faults , any body got any ideas ??????

yes i think the new machine is getting xp this weekend ,i have been trying all week to get the vista to work

It's likely that your installation disc has a relatively old version of the MOTU FireWire audio driver, which might not even be compatible with Vista. You should probably download and install the newest version that is available at motu.com.

put Xp pro sp3 on my audio partition this weekend and all up and running perfect within 10 mins of the installation finishing ,the vista is dead long live xp
