Which switching proves to be a total nightmare...

I am fairly new to this...

I wanted to take advantage of my all UAD-1 crads, while buying a new UAD-2 Duo, so I decided to let go 15 year sof Mac and go XP.

Not wanting to be lost in a too rich universe, I decided to buy a computer from a specialist (DirectResolution) and bought a i7 computer with XP home sp3, and a fair amount of twitching of MOBO and windows by these people...

I had it a few days away so what did I do: d/l the lastest drivers for my 896...

I still have my old copy of VST 32 5.1. It seems to work, but I did not get far...
But using a standalone plug in makes the motu cracks like hell like it never did with my old 1999 mac G4.

Using it with SX3 (I have a faire amount of about 400 songs to get back, so a second hand cubase SX3 was necessary to import these. Maybe later I'll upgrade to cubase 5) is a nightmare.

The MOTU just does not work at all. It will issue no sound. not even a click...

Selecting the output in cubase SX will crash cubase. In VST 5 it will not. Used in Windows, it will work but blips and cracks like I had a 90's computer.

Should I find older drivers ?

Since I am fairly new to all this (XP, MOTU drivers on XP, cubase SX) this is difficult to identify where it fails...

Any idea would be greatly regarded... I need toi be pointed in a selected number of problem I could check...

Welcome to the world of IBM. (since that's where the standard started)

First difference is that in the Mac world hardware and software choices were limited and so were the things you need to concern yourself with. But your options were limited too.

Here you'll need to be specific about hardware and software you are using including: mobo, ram, Ox version, hard drive config, net config, software, sound interface,... be specific

Don't let it overwhelm you. most of the issues are basic configuration issues that are easily resolved

First, let's get the MOTU working. then the cubase people can deal with that one

I don't have all the details...

The MOBO is a gigabyte... know the PC was extensively tested before being shipped...(they do stress test before shipping)
It has 3 gb ram,

It has XP home edition,tweaked for audio use. Bios also has been tweaked the same way (ethernet disabled, sound card disabled, and some obscure stuff I don't even know about).

It has a Texas Instrument firewire chip

I took this for their site:

I have been wondering if there were driver issues ?

I am considering trying to uninstall the drivers and install the one I had with CD delivered with the 896.
To make a test....

Try following these steps:

1. Make sure you have a drive image and/or system recovery disc so that if anything goes bad you can revert back to factory configuration.
2. Disconnect MOTU hardware.
3. Uninstall MOTU drivers.
4. Reboot.
5. Delete any leftover MOTU entries from the registry (Start Menu -> Run -> type "regedit", then search for and delete all "MOTU" entries.)
6. Reboot.
7. Reinstall version 3.6.7.0 or 3.6.7.4, they should be posted somewhere on this forum.
8. Reboot.
9. Connect and turn on your motu hardware. It should automatically run "Found New Hardware..." wizard and install the drivers for the device.

Let us know what happens after that.

Hello..

In the meantime, before reading this last post, I did something similar (with the exception of the regedit thing I don't know about, but this is the first time I get into windows) uninstalling everything (I mean everything, to return the computer state to its arrival state), and run again every installer (except also that I ran the lastest driver at the time)...

For a reason I don't know (and I have not made "stress test" so far), it works now properly (until I get more into Cubase).

The only issue I have is that sometimes, the 896 jump to 48 kHz (but I don't know it it is a 896 issue, a machine issue or a Cubase issue)

Anyway, I'm pretty close to running. I am still into painfully installing to restore my Mac's VST plug in folder, to prepare for a easier importing of my Cubase VST songs into SX.

I will anyway get these legacy drivers (any reason to choose old driver of latest one, by the way ?)
