8PRE in Standalone.

Post by jhaskill »

Hey Folks,

Tyring to read up on the 8PRE as much as possible and I think I know the answer to this but wanted to verify before making a purchase.

I currently have a RME RayDAT and want to connect 3 or 4 8PRE's to the RayDAT via lightpipe/ADAT. I do not want them to connect via firewire, maybe only for new firmware. So the only connection to my computer would be via ADAT I/O.

I know the 8PRE's only have (besides ADAT) a L/R monitor and headphone out. Here is my question. I would use these in a live mixing scenario so could I use the monitor outs on these devices as outs from my audio console software, not Cuemix. If this would work I would be limited to 6 monitor outs, and 3 headphone outs. I thought I read that when in standalone mode the monitor outs don't work, but everything gets routed through ADAT. My goal is to have my audio console software use the 2 L/R monitor feeds on one of the 8PRE's as FOH and the others as monitor mixes.

I hope I explained this clearly.

Thank you.

When the 8pre is in the standalone mode, the main outputs and the headphones output are disabled.
The leading cause of wrong answers is asking the wrong questions.
