GarageBand MIDI into DP6????
Transfering GarageBand MIDI parts into DP6.
Any one out there know if this is at all possible?
Got a feeling that I can only grab sections of audio and record into DP, not MIDI.
Shame, my son works in GB and wants to upgrade his songs in to my DP.
welcome any ideas.

Re: GarageBand MIDI into DP6????
As far as I know it is possible using "Soundflower". It's in the Digital Performer tips on this site. Best bet is do a search for "soundflower" and "tips" on the top right.

Hello.
On this page, you'll find useful info on GB and MIDI export:
http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=402911
If you have a friend with Logic, he can import the GB files and save them as a .mid file... After you can open this format in DP
Hope that help!

You don't need a friend with Logic. I found the link to the MOTU website:

Re: GarageBand MIDI into DP6????
Sorry Grouse but the tip on the motu site is for routing the audio out of GarageBand and back into DP.

You're right. Sorry! I glanced at the instructions and thought it was a 2 way thing. Odd you can't export MIDI from GB.

Grouse, no problem
GB is easy to use but don't let many options... I do like it for quick composing

Just shows how amateur garageband is, that it doesn't even have an 'export MIDI file' option - why would you want to? iTunes can't import a MIDI file.

Re: GarageBand MIDI into DP6????
That's deliberate by Apple - they want you to buy Logic as an upgrade to GB. I actually use GB as a starting point for ideas (its so easy and trouble free to use and get results) and then I load it into Logic and export it to DP - a bit torturous sounding but actually pretty simple. I don't really like Logic and it doesn't work well on my G4's - whereas I love GB and find it compliments DP really well (I sometimes find DP hard to use for quick sketches of ideas - by the time you have sorted things out the inspiration has often departed - whereas GB is so easy). So GB isn't amateur - but it is a pity you can't export it to other software without having to use Logic in between.Mr_Clifford wrote:Just shows how amateur garageband is, that it doesn't even have an 'export MIDI file' option - why would you want to? iTunes can't import a MIDI file.
