Will MOTU ever release new PCI-424 drivers?

Post by billruys »

I suspect MOTU are purging everything PCIX and PCIe from their product offerings and support, but it would be nice to get one more Vista/Windows 7 driver out of them before they pull the plug completely. There are still a few nagging bugs in the current Vista drivers and I don't want to throw all my PCIe-424 interfaces on the scrap heap just yet.

I have a terrible sinking feeling, because every time I purchase a new audio interface, it seems to go end-of-life weeks or months after I part with my hard earned cash

Like what? I haven't experienced any serious problems.
The leading cause of wrong answers is asking the wrong questions.

The problem I and others often have is that the rack units (a 2408 Mk3 and 24 I/O in my case) are not seen after a reboot. This doesn't happen in XP, only Vista. It can take a few reboots for the drivers to see the rack units. This is a real pain. Also, the current MOTU drivers crash if you try to use WASAPI mode in a DAW application (Like Sonar). Cakewalk tech support have confirmed that the problem is a bug in the MOTU driver.

MOTU update their F/Wire drivers regularly for any little problem while the PCI-424 based gear hasn't seen an update for well over two years. MOTU have obviously depreciated these products and they are well down the priority list these days.

I'm getting a huge CPU spike when opening the PCI Console on Vista 64. The CPU jumps up to around 60%. It will settle after about 12 seconds, but if I make a quick tweak and the quit, the CPU will not recover for at least 30 seconds. If I don't pay attention to the CPU consumption and try to run Nuendo during the 'peak period', chances are there will be no recovery and the project will be slamming the endstops.
I've checked this with no DAW running, just the PCI console, and the CPU slamming is the same.
I checked the computer with XP - this does not occur.
Has anyone had any similar experience?

TIA

I also have a PCI-424 card with a 24IO attached to it. In Vista I also had the problem that the rack unit wasn't recognized (in Windows 7 this isn't the case though). You can simply open the MOTU PCI Control panel and hit the refresh button and then close the control panel. Then the unit will be recognized. Well, in my case it worked anyway...
