Interface with multiple S/PDIF inputs?
Is there anything like this out there?
I have a few devices (preamps, keyboard) with S/pdif out, but most audio interfaces I can find only have one S/PDIF input, so I end up manually unplugging and plugging in.

The old MOTU 308 had eight channels of S/PDIF I/O. You can use it with a current PCI-424 card.
The leading cause of wrong answers is asking the wrong questions.
Re: Interface with multiple S/PDIF inputs?
Keep in mind that even if you find an interface with multiple SPDIF ins, you will need to have the word clocks all in sync. This may not be easy if at least one of your SPDIF devices does not have a word clock in. Most interfaces can be synced to the word clock of the incoming SPDIF signal. However if you are bringing in two digital streams they need to be all referenced to a common word clock.

Re: Interface with multiple S/PDIF inputs?
There was a Roland unit a few years back that was designed for Digital I/O routing and conversion between multiple devices, and I'm pretty sure it had multiple S/PDIF's. SOS reviewed it so you might find that article on-line. Their main complaint was that the mains were not protected and thus could short (or shock!). I forget the model number by now.

That would have been the M1000, if my memory serves me correct. It was more of a mixer/patchbay, not an interface. You're better off with a digital detangler from ZSystems. They aren't cheap, but they resolve clock where-as other units (the little M-Audio one, for example) would not accurately pass through the digital samples and therefore drop-out.
Thank you,

Re: Interface with multiple S/PDIF inputs?
I have all my S/PDIF in and outs from my gear connected to a simple RCA multiple connector patchbay and I patch them manually when needed.
Cheap, clean and easy.

Another inexpensive option, If you don't need to use all of the inputs concurrently, is to use one of these: http://www.inday.com/da4x/da4x.htm to switch between 4 sources. It will also convert toslink to coax and vice versa. I used one for a while before I simplified my setup. You would have to sync via S/PDIF instead of using word clock.
