Slaving 2 Mac Minis together?

Post by lamboguy »

Hi Folks,

I have an older Mac Mini (single core) and am getting a new one (2 core). DP works just fine on the old mini, I'm mainly getting a new one for all the vi stuff that bogs it down.

I was thinking of getting rid of the older mini, but -- can I somehow just slave it to the new one for added computer power? maybe even keep DP5 on the old one, and use the new one specifically for all my vi plugins?

I'm far from a computer wizkid... :) Maybe the answer is obvious, but I don' t have a clue.

Thanks! :D

You might be able to get some use out of the older Mac as a VI host, though I'm not sure that you're going to be able to offload *that* much from your main Mac with a single core.

You might get better mileage out of it by using it as an internet/office computer, or as the head of a media center. I have a last-gen dual core mini that I connect to my TV via a DVI-to-HDMI adapter and it's great for watching stuff on Hulu, browsing photos, playing games, etc.

Could I use the older mini for DP and the new 2 core mini as the vi host? Or am I thinking about things backwards?

Also, how do you "connect" them together?

Thanks,

Fred
