I Run FCPHD with BlackMagic Decklink uncompressed
SD and HD card on on My dual 2Ghz G5.
I am thinking of moving DP 4.5 to this machine from my Dual 1.46Ghz G4....
Is anyone using a similar capture card and FCPHD with DP4 or 4.5 ?
If so how's it working running both your DAW and NLE on the same machine... (not nessarily in unisyn)
I want to use to G4 for DV and SD video only.....
I am adding a G4 PB with Traveler and MachFive V2.0 (when it releases) as another Synth'

Re: QUESTION ABOUT RUNNING YOUR DAW & NLE ON THE SAME MA
I have all of Apple's pro software (including Logic Pro) running on a dual 2.5 GHz G5. Like you, I'm running 10.3.8 and 2.5 GB RAM. Works great.
If your plan is to record through the DeckLink into DP on the G5, I see no reason why you couldn't as long as the DeckLink shows up in the Sound Preference Panel. Check the support section at Black Magic Design: http://www.blackmagic-design.com/site/20support.htm lots of great info.
Cheers,
Paul

It seems to me that I ran across Blackmagic saying somewhere that they don't recommend their DeckLink products for audio only i/o, but I could be mistaken. Certainly, it's not optimized for such use. But you can easily extract audio in FCP.
If you have MOTU Traveler, your audio I/O is taken care of anyway.
Seems to me, you'd have no problem using DP, FCP and DeckLink on the same box. And, if worse came to worse, you could always pop the DeckLink PCI card out when not in use.

Re: QUESTION ABOUT RUNNING YOUR DAW & NLE ON THE SAME MA
Hey Drp,
I was runnign a similar set up last year on a Daul 1.25 G4, with 2 Gig Ram, a blackmagic Decklink Pro, a Motu 2408 MkIII, and several other bits and pieces. They worked fine together and I never really had a problem with both of the systems on one machine. I have since split them and now run a G5 Dual 2GHz at work with the decklink and a dual 1.25 G4 at home in the studio. Only split it because I didn't want to be at work makin music. Mind you I still run DP 4.12 at work through the decklink and its fine. As long as you run the decklink in the top slot of the G5 as they recommend then should be fine
Good luck with it....
