I am away from my tower system and working more than ever on my laptop, should I connect the Ultralight MK3 to the FW port and then chain my external drive into the MK#, or should I plug the HD direct to the FW port and chain the interface to the HD?
Running the OS on the internal drive and my audio files only from the external.

Interface 1st is the general rule here.
Always worked for me

Creativity, some digital stuff and analogue things that go boom. crackle, bits of wood with strings on them that go twang

Hard drive first, and then the interface.
It really depends on a number of factors though.
RME Fireface 800 works best if after the first external hard drive in the chain, when one doesn't have a dedicated port to give it.
Also necessary if going from FW400 to FW800.

Re: Questions about FireWire Chain order?
I've been running interface first and jamming smoothly, tried HD first and had more latency but still ran o.k., interface first is my rule for now.
thank you both.
