2 828 mk2`s and 2 ada8000`s
hi! ive had a 828 mk2 for some time and am really pleased with it, but the band im in needed more i/o, so we got 2 ada8000`s and another 828 mk2, there both firewire i can see all the adat channels etc etc, in nuendo no problem, we have some unusual digital noise at random intervals that lasts about 3 seconds which is coming from the ada8000 set as the slave. is this something to do with them not being sync`d up correctly? ive seen one of the 828`s flash from 48khz to 44khz rapidly before settling back onto 48khz ive read the manual and am confused at how to sync these up, do i run a wordclock lead from each motu to each ada8000 or from motu 1 to motu 2 and then to the slave ada8000?? if i do that i wont be able to run a lead to the second ada8000 as they only have wordclock in on them. sorry for the confusing post i hope someone can help!!!
Re: 2 828 mk2`s and 2 ada8000`s
I think it's digital noise. The clock source might be unstable. (I'm not the big pro on this one so caveat emptor)
Do the 828's have word clock I/O?
If so, I would slave one 828 to the other, and connect the 8000 optically off of them
You ultimately have only one unit connected via the firewire in this configuration.
Let me fish for a link for setting up the two motu units via optical. I know where it is but the server is down for service right now. I'll check back in later with it.

ok thanks m8 would really appreciate it!

i have an ADA8000 and it works great with my 828MK3, but i am using a BNC connector to sync both units. ADAT sync via the ADAT cable never worked for me...

+1, with that many digital units, and different protocols (Adat, FW), you should probably get a master workclock generator. It'll save you a lot of grief.majdid wrote:i have an ADA8000 and it works great with my 828MK3, but i am using a BNC connector to sync both units. ADAT sync via the ADAT cable never worked for me...
