Upgrading from OS10.4.11

Post by Chris T »

Hi

I have an 8-Core Intel Mac with 8gigs RAM.

I've been running OS10.4.11 for a while and it's been fine. I run DP5 (will be 6), all of NI, Spectrasonics, Steinberg, Waves etc.

Although I was intending to move to Leopard finally, I was wondering if it's worth it, or if I should not just skip it and wait for 10.6, then upgrade to that (after a few months of establishing its stability)?

If I waited for 10.6, would I be way behind and out of date, or would I be ok? I know that all my software is compaitble with Leopard, but I don't want the hassle of reformatting/upgrading unless it's reall necessary....

thanks
Main SYS: 12-Core New Mac Pro (Dec 2013), 64GB RAM, OS10.10, Apollo Quad Interface, 3xSSD work/sound drives in TB Enclosure, UAD Plugs, DP, VE PRO, All NI, All Spectrasonics, many libraries, VIs etc.
2nd SYS: Intel 8-Core Mac Pro (2007), 28GB RAM, OS10.7, MOTU PCI 424, 2408 interfaces (4), DP8.07, VE PRO, All NI, All Spectrasonics, many libraries, VIs etc.
2 Mac Minis (2011): Dual Quad, 16GB RAM running VE Pro, various libraries in Kontakt, G-Player, UVI.

The call is up to you, but at this point in time, I'd probably recommend to wait for 10.6, unless you really have pressing issues or things that are not working as you'd want on 10.4.

Thanks.

Yes - that's what I'm thinking. I guess it's just luck whether MOTU/NI/Waves etc come out with a new version of something which is only compatible with 10.5. Otherwise, I'm guessing (hoping!) that all will be 10.4.11 comatible until 10.6...

Hello,
I'm also considering upgrading from OS10.4.11 to OS10.5. 10.4 has been working just fine for me (although I do have some quirky issues when I open up the Limiter in DP 5.13, some of the graphic portions are just gray...) but, I was hoping to upgrade some other software such as to Toast 10 Titanium (I'm now on 6) and upgrading my Final Cut Express which both need, from what I've been told, OS10.5.

Are there any issues that you know of between DP 5.13 and OS10.5? At this point, I don't really want to upgrade to DP6 (for no other reason than that DP5 is working great for me and I don't want to spend the money to jump up to DP6 if I don't have to).

I know this is a MOTU forum but, does anyone know if Bias Peak LE 5.2 will work on Mac OS10.5???

Thank you!!!
