Hi all,
I've had my Ultralite for quite awhile now (too long to return it...had I known I'd run into so many issues with it I would have when I had the chance) but have only recently started using MIDI in and out on the unit. There seems to be a bad bottleneck, particularly in the MIDI out. I've tried this on Windows XP with the 3.6.7.x drivers all the way up to Vista 64 using the latest drivers and the symptom is always the same. When trying to play a simple MIDI file the MIDI out becomes very bottlenecked, delayed, and slow. It also tends to crash whatever MIDI player I decide to use (everything from Cubase, Reaper, to Winamp). I've tried multiple MIDI cables. Even with NO MIDI cable attached the result is the same.
Due to my belief that MOTU hates windows and writes bad drivers (this is the 2nd MOTU device I've owned that worked horribly under Windows...don't even ask why I bought a 2nd device...there won't be a 3rd), I'm afraid this is another case of bad drivers. I'm hesitant to try a new firewire card or cable because I don't want to waste more money.
So long story short...has ANYONE out there been able to get their Ultralite (I have the older one) to work with it's MIDI out...slaving to a synth or other device? If so, I'm willing to fork over for a better firewire card or cable.

Re: MIDI bottleneck in Ultralite
Hmm. Odd. I've used the MIDI outs on my 828, and have recorded and played back drums with no problems at all. In fact, Id say it works really well, except for the latency you will always get. Since the latency is static it is easy to correct.
I don't know that I've ever experienced a MIDI "bottleneck." Can you describe more specifically what the symptoms of the problem are?
